What was the highlight of Hostal 518
STINKY, STINKY, STINKY.
It's close to the bus station. The hostel is quite big, and there are some common areas where to meet other people. The dog that lives there is super cute.
When we arrived, there was a sign on our bathroom door saying not to use the bathroom. The receptionist that showed us the room quickly removed the signed and told us that she would have asked to a colleague of hers whether the bathroom was available or not. We waited for about half an hour, but the bathroom was super stinky... so, we decided to go downstairs and ask for info about the toilet. The receptionist looked for her colleague, and her colleague told us that the bathroom fan was broken and he worked on it to fix it. Then, he told us that the problem was fixed, but the toilet (and, therefore, the room itself we were sleeping in) was still smelling reeealllyyyy bad and did so for all the 2 nights we slept there. Also, the toilet flush was not working. Our bed was broken, pillows and linen were dirty, and the wooden stairs to go to the second floor were broken as well. We told to the receptionists that we were not happy about our stay, but they did not reply. We travelled Chile from Patagonia to Atacama, and this was the ONLY hostel we were not happy about.

What was the highlight of Hostal 518
Dirty and bad area
5min to bus station. They let us leave the bags when we came early before checkin, but the "storage room" was damp and smelled badly. Would actually have preferred to bring my bags with me while touristing.
We arrived at 9am even though checkin was in the afternoon, but the staff had confirmed we could come since reception is open from 8am. We rang the doorbell multiple times and then a man opened in underwear, because he was sleeping. I that moment, and the rest of our stay, we got the feeling that we we're "in the way" more than welcome at this place. The staff are noisy and some of them seems clueless in terms of handling reception etc. When we got our room (without any window) we got some sheets that were old and full of holes and had to make our own beds. The bathrooms never had toilet paper and it was impossible to find a good temperature in the shower. There is a dog at the hostel who likes to be in the common areas, so the sofas are full of dog hair, and also there is a bad smell across these areas. A lot of flies in the room beside the reception. I couldn't sleep until like 2am because you hear every little noise because of thin walls. And the area? Don't even get me started. Far from everything and our Uber drivers reminded us that this is not an safe area to be in even in daytime.

Guapa, the dog.
Guapa, the dog.
The bathrooms were really dirty, most of the time without toilet paper. The sheets are stained and the duvets look like they haven’t been washed in a long time. The staff had a party that could be heard throughout the entire place until 6AM, a drunk mess. They are in fact a party hostal - not a place to stay if you want to get some rest for your travels. The staff were nice, but they seemed never to know what was going on, clearly there to party.

What was the highlight of Hostal 518
A valuable stay in Valpraiso
Staff were very friendly and helpful. They did allow me to check in sooner than the expected check in time. Otherwise, they also let me borrow their printer so I can print my boarding and papers. Hotel is just 5 minutes walking from the central bus station so it is quite easy to locate. To discover concepcion hill or allerige hill, it is also easy to catch bus (505 or 506, 513)
